Inspiration

Hey there,
I spend way to much time on pinterest finding inspirational quotes and pictures that I can look at when I am not having the best day. I think that it is really important to have inspiration surrounding you most of the time, other wise how will you stay motivated? One of my favourite places to find inspiration is pinterest.
Today I wanted to share some of the quotes I have found recently, hopefully they will help inspire you.

'Your story isn't calm. The road has been chaotic at time, filled with detours and rain and loss so sudden and soon. Sometimes the bliss was so elevated your heart could hardly hold it. sometimes it was maddening to have and then to lose. You learn soon enough that it hardly ever goes as planned- gentle, easy and smooth. But that my friend is what makes you fascinating. You have something to tell. Something you've walked thorough. Something wild. Something courageous. Something true. You're made of stories within stories within even more stories. Those quiet depths of you'- Victoria Erickson

It's better to look back on life and say: "I can't believe I did that." than to look back and say: "I wish I did that."

Life is full of give and take. Give thanks and take nothing for granted.

"Progress is impossible without change & those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything"- George Bernard Shaw

'I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which have never happened.'- Mark Twain

'For what it's worth: it's never too late to be who you want to be. I hope you live a life you're proud of, and if you're not, I hope you have the strength to start over.- F.Scott Fitzgerald

'Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.'- Dr Seuss

'You have brains in your head. You have feed in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.'- Dr Seuss

It's not about perfect. It's about effort. And when you bring that effort every single day that's where transformation happens. That's how change occurs.

Hopefully you enjoyed this post,
let me know what other quotes you love

In 3 achieving you best bullet journal bullet journal experiment ideas inspiration poppy poppy's post try

Bullet Journal #2

Hey,
As promised yesterday I am going to give you an update on my bullet journal experiment today. Check out this post if you want to learn more about this experiment.
In the last post I just touched on what I was going to be doing with the bullet journal and a few of the things that I was liking about it. Today I am going to be talking about the weekly layout and why I find it has helped me.

For the last two weeks I have created a two page spread that contains room for do-to lists and events for each day, as well as study tracking, blog tracking, notes and goals. In the next few days I will be uploading some pictures onto a page of the blog.
Layout
I found that this layout works really well for me, especially since I am a very visual person. I find it helpful to be able to sort from the events and tasks for each day because this allows me to break up my day and plan ahead, and there is enough room for me to add some quotes, pictures and colour.

Study Tracker
The study/blog trackers I also find really useful. My study tracker consists of a table of 9 colums and 9 rows, down the left side I write all my subjects, in the first colum I write if I have any assessment that week, and what day the assessment is on, and on the remaining 7 colums (one for each day of the week) I write a day of the week. When I spend time working on homework or studying for a subject I colour in the box for that subject on the day that I completed the task on. I find this helps me balance my time and ensure that I am spending equalish amounts of time on each subject.

Goals
I have 3 boxes for my goals in each weekly spread. I use the first box for a goal for that particular week and the other two boxes are for my long-term goals. This goal set-up helps me keep track of my aims and goals and is always there to remind me of what I have to remember to do.

That's all for today, but next Monday I will share some tips for making your bullet journal pretty and interesting. Let me know in the comments what you thought of this post and/or what you do in your bullet journal.

See you on Wednesday,

In book suggestions books books i've read ideas inspiration poppy poppy's books poppy's post post reading recently suggestions

I've been reading....

Hey there,
Finally, we only have one week of school left for this term! I can't wait for the holidays, especially because I am going to Queensland with one of my friends for a week! As I mentioned in my last post I have started a bullet journal experiment. I am really enjoying it at the moment and tomorrow I will share some of the things I've been doing with it, please let me know in the comments below if you have any bullet journal inspiration for me, or ideas that you have tried.

Today I wanted to share some of the books I've been reading recently, most of these I've been re-reading, so sorry if I've mentioned them before.

More than this- by Patrick Ness. I read this book about a year and a half ago and I remember I really enjoyed it so it has become by at-school book. If you love mystery/ dystopian or similar styles of books I can almost guarantee you'll love this one. A review of it should be going up on our goodreads account in the next few weeks.

The summer I turned pretty, it's not summer without you and we'll always have summer- by Jenny Han. I just finished re-reading this series and while they are not my all-time favourites I enjoyed reading them. These books are for lovers of romance novels and/or realistic fiction. Again, a more thorougher review will be going up on our goodreads account.

This is what happy looks like- by Jennifer E Smith. I just finished reading this book for the first time and I loved it. It is again not my faovurite ever book, but it was enjoyable and entertaining. Another one for lovers of romantic and/or realistic fiction. Let me know in the comments if you would like to see this book reviewed on the blog in the next few weeks.

Hope you will enjoy reading one of these books and don't forget to let me know if you have any suggestions for me.
See you tomorrow.

In art DIY elephant feedback how to ideas ideas for you inspiration painting poppy poppy post poppy's post post tutorial watercolour

How to create a watercolour silhouette

Hey there, It's Poppy!
Recently I have been doing some watercolour painting at school and we used masking fluid  to create silhouettes.

For those of you who do not know masking fluid is a liquid that is painted around or on areas of the painting that you do not want to get paint onto and when it dries it acts as a barrier against paint, it can then be peeled off to leave areas clean

I loved doing it so last weekend I went to the art shop to get some masking fluid, and I found that it was super-duper expensive (I think it was about $20 for a 75ml bottle). I decided against buying it and tried a technique that I have heard of but never really used before. Crayon.
It worked surprisingly well and I don't think that I will be buying masking fluid anytime soon.

How to create a watercolour silhouette without using masking fluid

You will need:
Watercolour paper (watercolour paper is much better to use for this because it is much more sturdy and can take the amount of water we are going to be adding)
Watercolour paints (the ones I used were not the best quality paints, as in a $15 set of 30, but still worked well)
Paint brushes (I used various sizes, but if you can only have one size a medium or small brush would be best)
Water
Paper Towel
A white crayon
Some printer paper
A led pencil
Optional-a computer to print from

How to: (for variations and different ideas see the notes below)

1. Find an image that could be used for a silhouette on the internet (you could alternatively draw one straight onto the printer paper). (I used a single elephant silhouette) and print it onto the printer paper.

2. Cut around the outside of the image on the printer paper.

3.Lay the cut-out image onto the watercolour paper in the position you want it to be for the final painting.

4. Trace around the outside of the image using a led pencil, make sure you only do it lightly!

5. Remove the image that you cut out earlier from the watercolour paper

6.Using the white crayon carefully trace just inside the pencil line, around the whole shape.

7.Fill in the rest of the shape with the crayon.

8.Choose the colours you would like to use (I used a turquoise and pink)

9.Cover the area outside your shape with water (this makes the pain easier to spread, remember that you may have to reapply it in certain areas, depending on how fast you work)

10.Paint the area outside your shape (I blended my colours together with water), be careful and try not to get to much paint on the crayon but if you do get some on the crayon simply dab it or push it outside the shape with the paper towel.

11.Wait for the paint to dry (you may want to rub the pencil out carefully)

12.You are finished.

Notes
-You may want to do more than one of the same image on your painting, to do this simply do step three and four for the first image and then go back and repeat steps three and four for the rest of the images.

-Alternatively, you could paint the inside of the shape and leave the outside white, to do this simply reverse step three (trace on the outside of the pencil line) and don't worry about filling in the background.

Hopefully, you had fun doing this. I would love to hear about your attempts or see some photos (if we get enough I could post them on here in a few weeks) of your artwork.

I'm about to go out and take some photos that I might share tomorrow :-)

In 5 reasons advice gratitude hi ideas for you inspiration life poppy post why winter you

Winter Wonderland...

 Hey there all,
Hope you are having a fantastic week (I am now that my science test is done).
It appears that winter has decided to pay a visit to this part of Australia and now it is absolutely freezing (and I mean below zero temperatures). We've had both the fire and heater on and it's the kind of weather that makes you just want to stay cuddled up in bed, under the doona, drinking tea/hot chocolate, and not really focusing on anything.
But I've been thinking... everyone seems to love summer and spend all winter complaining about the cold and wishing it was summer. While I love being at the beach and not having to go to school during summer I also love winter and here are the reasons why:

1. SNOW. I love skiing and while it doesn't snow where I live it snows not too far away and I love travelling to the snow for a weekend and spending some time skiing.

2.MY BIRTHDAY. My birthday is coming up!!!!

3.Hot Chocolate and Tea. I love drinking tea and hot chocolate and winter is the perfect time for it.

4.It's not stinking hot. The good thing about winter is that it is so much easier to warm yourself up then cool down. This is probably my favourite thing about winter (apart from my birthday and skiing)

5.Cuddling up under the doona with a hot water bottle. No more needs to be said.

So hope you are feeling a bit better about heading into winter now (and anyone who isn't when it is your winter remember this). Let me know what your favourite things about winter are below.

PS. I've decided that I am going to post every Monday, Wednesday and on the weekends, Mop will probably not be posting every week.

In 4 reasons art ideas ideas for you inspiration life list poppy post snail mail

Snail Mail

Hey there, it's Poppy.
For Christmas last year, I received this Snail Mail book, written by Michelle Mackintosh. It shared some super cute ideas for hand-written letters. This book has inspired me to start writing hand-written letters to some of my friends and family.
Here are some reasons why snail mail is better than email, text or social media.

1.You get to receive letters in the mail. It sounds kind of silly but who doesn't love getting something (that isn't bills or boring stuff like that) in the mail.
2. You take the time to think about what you are writing. No one sends a letter that says ok or hi. People actually take the time and effort to consider what they want to say and put time into their replies.
3. You can make them creative and colourful. I am a visual person and I love things to be colourful and detailed. You can't add hand draw pictures or creative borders to emails. The snail mail book has lots of examples of creative ways to write letters.
4.You can keep all your letters. I have a box in my bedroom that I put all of my letters into. You can keep letters and re-read them whenever you want. They are much more special and significant than text messages.

So while text messages, email and social media are all great snail mail is a fantastic way to connect with long-lost friends, or friends that may have moved away, and family members. Why don't you give it a go? Send a letter to someone (it could even be the lady down the street or your grandparents). Have a go at making a letter interesting and adding a creative design.

In inspiration life live pinterest poppy post quotes sunday thanks

Inspiration for any day

Hey there, it's Poppy.
1am the kind of person who loves looking at quotes. I love being inspired and when I am having a bad day I can spend ages looking at quotes on Pinterest. Believe it or not, it makes me feel better! So I thought that today I might share my 5 favourite quotes. These can be found on our Pinterest, or the direct pin can be found by clicking the links.

1. Life is like a camera, you focus on what is important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives and if things don't work out take another shot. I love this quote, and I think that I shared it in an earlier post. I think that it is a perfect metaphor and gives me the courage to have another go when things don't work out (like our first blog).

2. I may not be there yet but I am closer than I was yesterday. One step can make all the difference. This is another one of my favourite quotes. I find it hard sometimes to start something that I know will be difficult and take lots of time and effort but reading this reminds me that the first step is the most important and starting will mean that I am closer to finishing that I was before.

3. Great things are done by a series of small things brought together- vincent van gogh. I think that this quote is a reminder that everything you do doesn't have to be big and take a lot of time, lots of small things work just as well as one big one. Kind of like cleaning your room- little bits each day make it much easier.

4. Quiet people have the loudest minds- stephen king. This might not be inspirational for some people but it reminds me that it is ok to be quiet and not shout out every thought that comes to my mind. Just because I don't share all my ideas doesn't mean that they aren't as good as those who share them all. This one has a similar message

5.I'm not beautiful like you, I'm beautiful like me. I read this to remind myself that everyone is different and that's ok. Don't try too hard to fit in, you were born to stand out. This also reminds me that it is ok to be different and that pretending to be someone else just to make my friends happy is no good to anyone.

So there are my 5 (or 7) favourite inspirational quotes that are perfect for any day. Which is your favourite? Did I miss one?
Let me know below...
p.s I can't wait to share my post with you tomorrow!

In come and passed inspiration life list mop post summer

Summer has come and passed...

Hi, just letting you know that this is an older post that Mop wrote at the beginning of February. Unfortunately she couldn't write her post for today so I am going to share her favourite summer memories. xPoppy

Hi guys! It is I, Mop! This is my first post here at Poppy & Mop, and it's about my favourite summer memories. (Also, anyone notice the stunning similarity between this posts title and Green Day lyrics? 😂)

Camping with my mates
Gah. I sound all bogan-ish but it's true, I had loads of fun camping with Poppy and some awesome other friends at the beach to celebrate my birthday. We all enjoyed it loads, apart from when we thought we heard the ice cream truck, but it turned out to be the seafood van, and getting bluebottle stings was also not the best...

My beautiful new cousins
I now have another three little cousins, all who I love very much. I spent a lot of the holidays in Sydney, and even went to the beach with R, who didn't get to eat any chips. I am so grateful that all my cousins are healthy and safe.

Going to Newtown
While staying in Sydney I went to Newtown three times, because there is really nothing like it where I live. I got some pretty cool art supplies and school stuff. I think my favourite Newtown shops would be Art on King, Pentimento, Made590, Oragami Doll and those super cool by vinyl and record stores.

A day at the beach
My family and I had a wonderful time at the beach at Freshwater, near Manly, while we were in Sydney. We found a lovely fish and chips shop, as well as explored the rock pools and splashed around a bit.

Epic Christmas (as usual)
Everyone who I am even vaguely related to I see at the big Christmas dinner with my family (luckily Poppy was there) and I had the most fun playing laser tag, chasing my younger cousins and stuffing my face with pavlova and other food.

Seeing Poppy loads
I don't often get to see Poppy as often as I wish I did, because we live on opposite sides of the city. I got to see her loads over the holidays and I am so happy, because it all lead to this blog.
What are your favourite things to do in the holidays and on the weekends?
