My thoughts on Care Packages by Michelle Mackintosh

Hi there everyone! It's Poppy again.

A few weeks ago I mentioned the snail mail book I got for Christmas. For my birthday in June I received another book my Michelle Mackintosh. This one was called Care Packages. It was all about putting together and sending care packages to others. While I haven't read all of it I have read a few pages and it looks amazing.

As the book explains, care packages originated shortly after world war two. The first CARE packages were sent by an organisation called the Cooperative for American Remittances to Europe (which is now known as the Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere) to Europe, where there were huge number of people at risk of starvation. Since then the term 'care package' has come to mean a parcel sent for comfort, or to help someone out. And this book is full of examples of care packages you could send! And what to put in them.

I definitely recommend this book. Even if you don't have anyone in particular to send a care package too, you could give someone one for their birthday or Christmas- or even just to say thank you. I'm sure they would love it.

My Favourites...

Hey there everyone! Thanks to those people who have taken our survey and/or signed up for the mailing list. (Remember, one reader who takes our survey will get the chance to share something on the blog) It makes blogging so much more enjoyable knowning that someone is loving what you are creating.
Anyway, I only have a short post for today about some of the things I am loving right now.

1.Brownies
I have just put a batch of brownies in the oven and the receipe I use makes the best brownies I have ever tasted! They are gooey and chocolatey in the middle and have a little bit of a crust around the outside. Trust me, once you've made these you will never use a different recepie again! (The link will be up as soon as the internet decideds to work, try googling thermomix fudgy brownies and it is the one that starts with 'I am quite fussy with my brownies)

2.Photography
I'm sure you've noticed but recently I have been posting a lot about photography, thats because I am really enjoying it at the moment. I got a DSLR camera for my birthday a few weeks ago and I can't wait to share some photos on here! (I have to take some first :-))

3.Reading
I have always been a big reader but recently I have been going through sooooo many books. Some of my favourites are: the apple tart of hope, by Sarah Morre Fitzgerald , extraordinary means by Robyn Schneider and the year of the rat by Clare Furniss. At the moment I am reading Me, Earl and the Dying Girl

4.Sending Snail Mail
As I have mentioned in this post I love sending and receieving letters.

5.Blogging
The past few weeks have been my favourite in terms of this blog, we haven't had to do as much work with the tempalate, we have started having a regular audience (thats you!) and all this hard work is starting to pay off!

Snail Mail

Hey there, it's Poppy.
For Christmas last year, I received this Snail Mail book, written by Michelle Mackintosh. It shared some super cute ideas for hand-written letters. This book has inspired me to start writing hand-written letters to some of my friends and family.
Here are some reasons why snail mail is better than email, text or social media.

1.You get to receive letters in the mail. It sounds kind of silly but who doesn't love getting something (that isn't bills or boring stuff like that) in the mail.
2. You take the time to think about what you are writing. No one sends a letter that says ok or hi. People actually take the time and effort to consider what they want to say and put time into their replies.
3. You can make them creative and colourful. I am a visual person and I love things to be colourful and detailed. You can't add hand draw pictures or creative borders to emails. The snail mail book has lots of examples of creative ways to write letters.
4.You can keep all your letters. I have a box in my bedroom that I put all of my letters into. You can keep letters and re-read them whenever you want. They are much more special and significant than text messages.

So while text messages, email and social media are all great snail mail is a fantastic way to connect with long-lost friends, or friends that may have moved away, and family members. Why don't you give it a go? Send a letter to someone (it could even be the lady down the street or your grandparents). Have a go at making a letter interesting and adding a creative design.
